Michael Herz and Greame Fidler, the design duo responsible for iconic luxury brand BALLY, presented a RTW (ready-to-wear) shoe collection this spring that held an air of youth and lightness.
“We were thinking about the idea of a young debutante and what she would wear today,” Herz said.
Bally explored a modern romance in which streamlined sportswear silhouettes and barely there heels.
The shoes themselves were an interesting exploration of leather laces that twisted, knotted, and crossed over one another in different variations to form a sleek and structural feel.
The strappy shoe was said to be engineered in a way that recalls the school-yard game 'cat’s cradle', offering cord-thin laces and plump, filo-rolled straps that elegantly encase the foot in a youthful, barefoot play on an adult accessory.
The designers offered these knotted looks primarily in red or camel leather sandals and platform shoes with swirling and twisted straps, and are also available in Navy.
Shoes are at the heart of Bally's luxury leather heritage, and techniques in modern leather craftsmanship have seen Herz and Fidler take their initial inspiration of a cat's-cradle-like sandal (mentioned above and which can also be seen on Bally's 1951 centenary poster) and rework it into a series of minimally decorated pieces.
The elegance of this shoe collection is one that would match a more classic or sporty dresser.
As it is simply structured with minimal fuss, so too should be the clothing that is matched with such foot-finery. Basic shirt dresses and stream-lined pants in neutral tones of white, navy, red black and nude are best paired with this youthful collection so not to take away from the shoes stunning simplicity.
For complimentary attire, look to match these BALLY heels with garments that are as strong in structure and material. Leather embellishments on silk shirts or basket-ball edged shorts will work a treat.
Also do keep in mind that this particular collection is based on a 1950's poster and the fashions that matched. So do lean more towards cuts and shapes that are also inspired by this era and which can be seen influencing a large array of this seasons collections.
