The cap toe shoe

Cap toe shoes do conjure up images of boot stomping, mud kicking aggressiveness.

Although, just like the Alexandre McQueen knuckle duster - fashion has put a spin on these historically violent accessories, manipulating them into a realm of positivity and fashionable fun!

The cap toe shoe, defined by a contrasting (via colour, print, material or stitching) toe section that differentiates itself from the rest of the shoe in quite an obvious manner - is yet another colour blocking technique as seen in so many accessories and garments this Spring/Summer '12.

What originated as a style established to protect shoes and elongate their wearability is now purely a visual add-on that reigns in the shoe trends of 2012.
However putting the utilitarian function of protecting the tips of your shoes aside, the cap-toe style is celebrated this season as being more fashionable than practical - mostly amongst the D.I.Y fashionistas!

The tip, although most commonly detailed in metallics - is branching out to a wide variety of colours and textures, making the style an easy one to pick up. Amongst my faves are the bright neon tips, and the soft pastel - both which add an immense amount of character and contrast to any outfit!

Now most cap toe shoes are formal by design and follow in the 'court shoe' style of practicality.
And THIS is exactly what makes them perfectly practical for everyday use.
Their sturdy frames mean they are not only easier than most high heels to walk in, but keep them wonderfully suited to outfits that require a more subtle approach to footwear.
Think office meetings, a walk to the library, picking up cup-cakes for your friends soiree - the everyday lifestyle of a fashion fan is the ideal environment to strut this style!
