Goth Goes Glam

As a patron of the LBD*, well... actually anything black if I'm being completely honest – my wardrobe resembles the night sky – pure noire!

Now it's not that I don't like colour... it just scares me a little!

I'm used to being in the background of everything, as a Fashion Stylist, I work behind the scenes, behind the camera – and my wardrobe choice reflects that.

Now as a classic colour pallet choice, the colour black is a fail-safe tone that merges effortlessly into most situations. It's not always the most 'fashionable' of colours (colours like neon yellow, pastel pink and orange taking the top trend places this season) BUT black is always in style!

Now this season, the colour black is taking it upon itself to become more of a prominent colour in terms of the trends, making it's mark mostly amongst the celebrity red carpet!

Celebrities have swapped their glittery gowns and bronzed, glowy makeup for a much edgier, sumptuously darker look that hasn't spared one inch of glamour – and it's not just makeup that is getting the goth-glam treatment! Dresses are taking on this edgier side of black, with delicate black lace, luxe leather tailoring and sensually tight structure paying tribute to the darker connotations.

Seen on the runway at Nina Ricci, Gucci, Versus and Givenchy to name just a few, a new era of strong sexy silhouettes are making their mark and no other colour could be more appropriately matched than black. This season, be prepared to emphasize your 'darker' side and step out in shadow inspired numbers.

If you worried that by wearing head-to-toe black with such an edgy tone may have you looking more like the 'Wicked Witch of the West than Charlize Theron and Kirsten Stewart in the 'Snow White and the Huntsman' preview (ravishingly divine!) then here's some simple tips to keep you on trend:

1. Absolutely avoid wearing this look to a wedding!

Wearing black to your friend's nuptials will do nothing but earn you unwanted glares as will sporting this look when visiting your Grandmother and Grandfather. Wear with care and be sure to take in your surroundings before inappropriately showing up to an event looking overly vampish

2. Avoid being linked to any religious cult!

Don't home-dye your hair jet black or accessorize your ensemble with any religious-inspired jewellery, fish net-s are an absolute no-go too!

Make sure to represent the GLAM side more than the GOTH by staying true to the fashions of now as opposed to the Gothic stereotypes and their typical wardrobe malfunctions (including safety pins and body piercing!)
