Cashmere World' Exhibition moves to Hong Kong

by FNA posted on 25 Apr 2012

Cashmere World makes the major move from Beijing to Hong Kong, when it collocates with Fashion Access fair at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre from 27-29 September 2012.

Two major considerations lie behind the recent announcement made by co-organisers China Chamber of Commerce of Import & Export of Foodstuffs, Native Produce & Animal By-products (CFNA) and UBM Asia Ltd.

One: the presence of major international buying offices and regional headquarters of high-level brands in Hong Kong will clearly bring a fresh and bigger market for cashmere suppliers coming mostly from Qinghai, Hebei and Inner Mongolia in China and cashmere brands from Japan, Korea and Italy.

Two: the collocated Fashion Access exhibition is well established and acknowledged as an important global fashion fair featuring head-to-toe fashions, from bags, footwear, small leather goods, garments and fashion and lifestyle accessories. Bringing Cashmere World into the same venue will undoubtedly create a synergy between the two fairs, providing greater benefits to Cashmere World exhibitors and buyers alike.

This is a significant aspect. Although top grade cashmere products retain an elevated luxury status they are no longer limited only to high-fashion brands.  Cashmere is fast gaining popularity in medium-end retail shops all over the world. Fashion Access creates the perfect platform for this end of the market to gain access to new sources of more affordable yet high quality cashmere items.

Mr Bian Zhenhu, President of the China Chamber of Commerce of Import & Export of Foodstuffs, Native Produce & Animal By-products (CFNA) declared:  “It is the mutual decision of CFNA and UBM to launch a brand new date and venue for the Cashmere World exhibition after we carried out reviews and research in the industry. We have two main conclusions: On one hand, we should make good use of Hong Kong's favourable advantage as an international trading centre to create more business opportunities for the cashmere industry. On the other hand, September is a peak season for worldwide exhibitions and the hot season for purchasing and placing orders on cashmere goods. Moreover, Fashion Access – another fashion event will be held at the same venue in the same period, which will help to attract more international buyers and offer more business opportunities. I believe that with the combined advantages of favourable date and venue, plus our mutual efforts, a prominent breakthrough for the coming Cashmere World will be achieved.”

Other Trade Associations approve of the move as well.  Mr. Francis YÜK, Chief IAF Representative(International Apparel Federation), Asia says: ‘Congratulations! I'm glad to learn that Cashmere World will move to Hong Kong. The new venue will provide participants a lot of opportunities and an environment for the development of all participants.”

Mr. Armando Tschang, Director Agenzia per la Cina of Italy agrees: “The decision to move Cashmere World to Hong Kong and advancing the show date to September responds to the requirements of international buyers.  It definitely will make the fair more international.

‘Hong Kong is well-known as a trading centre for luxury and fashion products.  The move will bring the participants more business opportunities’, added Hao Songlin, General Manager, Viction Cashmere Group in China.

Alessandra Cocchi, Managing Director of EastMax Fashion Ltd. based in Hong Kong also has good words to say about the move: 'I feel the whole event (Cashmere World 2011) was a success in terms of networking and knowledge. Moving the fair to Hong Kong is a logical evolution which will benefit the whole cashmere industry.'

Michael Duck, Director of APLF, organisers of Fashion Access, “The news has been extremely well received.  We are delighted that so many companies in this specialised sector of the fashion industry welcome this opportunity to expand their business.  It really is a win-win situation for all parties concerned.”
