China: Domestic footwear price grew despite exports fell

Despite the decrease in shoe exports, domestic consumption of footwear has remained steady in China since the beginning of 2012.

The statistics released in early March from general adminstration of customs have shown China foreign trade increased a 6.9% to $264.39bn in the first two months. In terms of leather industry shoes export saw a drop of 2.1% to $5.95bn, luggage and bags fell 12.1% in value to $2.53bn.

However, statistics showed domestic consumer price of shoes rose 3.5% in February, compared with the same period of previous year, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.
