Bangladesh’s footwear sector recorded export turnover of $335.5 million during the financial year 2011-12 as compared to $297.8 million in the previous year, according to the country’s Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).
Local footwear manufacturers produced leather shoes worth approximately $207.7 million during the year, exporting between 40% and 45% of these, or approximately 65 million pairs.
According to a local media, local shoemakers including Apex-Adelchi Footwear, Jennys, Landmark, Leatherex, Bay Footwear and Picard Bangladesh, are expanding their facilities to cope with increased demand. Several of these firms are also importing machinery to improve the quality of the footwear they produce.
