The COTANCE Council held in Bologna on October 11, 2013, on the sideline of the Lineapelle Fair, is pleased to learn that the sector’s submission for an EU Pilot for Leather had been retained by the European Commission as one of the 14 successful Pilots among a total of some 90 applications.

Leatherbiz reports that the Secretary-general of COTANCE, the leather industry’s representative body in the European Union, has urged leather-sector companies in Europe to consider taking part in a new voluntary initiative to make identification of “green” products easier and more uniform.
The 18th Session of the UNIDO Leather Panel (Shanghai, 1-5 September 2012) addressed the important issue of the LCA methodologies that should allow the leather industry to get a fair and accurate calculation of the carbon/water footprint of Leather. A Technical Report on this topic was tabled by UNIDO for getting the feedback from the Leather Panel and finalising the work.
The international news site Leatherbiz.com has reported that COTANCE, the representative body of the tanning industry to the European Commission, has agreed a deal to make the national leather industry associations it represents members of the International Council of Tanners (ICT).
