These were some of the hot topics covered in a lively debate, ‘What’s in a name?’ held on the sidelines of APLF’s Materials, Manufacturing & Technology exhibition. The panel brought together global experts from the leather, synthetics and fashion industries and there was no shortage of strong opinions.
Gustavo Quijano Gonzalez, Secretary General of COTANCE, as one of the panelists has given his view points on this hot topic.

“We are quite concerned that we see in the market the development of products that are termed artificial leather or synthetic leather. It's a contradiction in terms and it confuses consumers. If it is leather it is natural, if it synthetic or artificial it is not natural.”
“It is not correct that a man-made material free-rides the good image and name of leather. Why should you define yourself against another product?”
