APLF - Materials, Manufacturing & Technology, Fashion Access and Prime Source Forum have kicked off on 25 March 2013. It is the gathering place that brings together international players and buyers of leather and fashion industry. Please find the highlights of the press conference with the speech of the industry leaders.
The leather sector was one that has benefited most in recent decades from the technological advances in the field of traceability. It is by using traceability to monitor cattle that entrepreneurs, customers and society as a whole can be certain that products being bought do not come from an area reserved for indigenous people or are supplied by companies practicing deforestation or using child or slave labor. This is a huge gain from a sustainability point of view that the leather sector is closely following.
In recent years after the Leather Forum that took place in Paris in 2007 and on the initiative of its then President, Marc Follachier, the IULTCS has adopted a leading role in the treatment of and focus on environmental problems facing the leather industry.
Sustainability and environmental protection have become hot topics, not only for the leather industry but also for the textile industry as well. This issue also concerns the consumer who is more aware of such problems than a decade ago. The world’s leading brands are offering “green merchandise” to show that they are doing their part in protecting the ecosystem upon which the whole of humanity depends.
Leading leather chemical supplier Stahl will return to APLF in Hong Kong after being absent for a number of years. Focus for this show is leather fashion trends and the new technologies that Stahl can offer to meet the market demands for the global shoe and luxury goods segments.
